In April, several legislative changes will be coming in to effect. Here is a summary of the changes, and what they might mean for you, your landlords and tenants.

• Extension of making tax digital (MTD): from 1 April 2022, the government is extending the requirement to operate MTD so all taxpayers with a property or business income over £10,000 will have to keep a digital record of their tax returns. Read the full guidance here.

• New landlord licensing scheme in Liverpool: from 1 April 2022, a new licensing scheme takes effect in 16 of the 30 wards in the Liverpool metropolitan region. Read the full guidance here.

Changes in landlords’ right to rent checks: from 6 April 2022, physical documents such as biometric residence cards will no longer be accepted as valid proof of right to rent, and digital versions will have to be provided instead. Read the full guidance here.
